Climate Change: A Strategic Threat

Here in New York we've had a remarkably cool summer. But in Washington global warming is suddenly a hot topic of military importance. According to a report in today's New York Times, the Pentagon and the State Department are:

...now considering the effects of global warming in their long-term planning documents. The Pentagon will include a climate section in the Quadrennial Defense Review, due in February; the State Department will address the issue in its new Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review.

Also, we now have, not one, not two, but three ice cream shops here in Beacon. Evidence enough for me that temperatures are rising.
