LSD in NYC

A big thank you to everyone who braved the inclement weather last week to come to the opening of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds at Heidi Cho Gallery in Chelsea, particularly the Beacon posse (about twenty strong).

I have three pieces in the show: A wall installation, "Noisy Lawnmower – Sweet Music," 1995-2009, mixed media, 72 x 111 inches; untitled (red and gold chateau interior), 2007, Duratrans and aluminum light box, 36 x 36 x 5 inches; and untitled (orange bubbles), 2003, acrylic on vinyl suitcase, 18 x 23 x 6 inches (all above).

The other artists in the show, all excellent and well known, are Richmond Burton, Maurizio Pellegrin, Tad Wiley and Saya Woolfalk. I'm grateful to be in such good company.

Kudos to Heidi Cho director and LSD curator, Marilyn Rosenberg for putting together such a good-looking and engaging exhibition to kickoff the season.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds runs through November 12, 2009.

Husqvarna Chainsaw

Almost finished Out Stealing Horses. Still loving it. Posting a few more images that pertain to the story.

Out Stealing Horses

I've finally got around to reading Per Peterson's Out Stealing Horses and I think it may turn out to be one of my all time favorite books. I'm about a third of the way through.

This is the first in a series of image posts about specific things mentioned in the book.

Westwater Ruins

Lack of climate control and the use of non-archival materials have resulted in the near loss of several important early installations.

South West Water Emergency Control Center

Blast doors and standby generators impart a sense of security while the artist works uninterrupted and unimpaired in his new live/work space.

South West Water commissioned 3 emergency control centres in the late 1980's. Two were purpose built semi-sunken bunkers, one within the Little Hempston Treatment Works near Totnes and a similar bunker at the former treatment works at Coswarth near Newquay. The 3rd Emergency Control Centre was built within the wall of a dam on the Drift Reservoir west of Penzance. The latter has now been converted into a pumping station while the two bunkers at Tonnes and Newquay are extant and remain largely unused.

Blog Action Day

I'm thinking "Love Action (I Believe in Love)" by the Human League, but for all you serious Earth people, here's my lovely wife discussing something a little more relevant.

And a quick little poem:

Blog Action Day
Blog Action Day
Trumpet trumpet trumpet
Don't step on my trumpet
Love my little trumpet monkey
Kiss him on his trumpet lips
Let him toot you
You toot him too
We all toot together
Toot toot toot
Blog Action Day

There, planet saved.

Hey, if you're in the city tonight and in an art opening kinda mood, check out some LSD in NYC.
